since this is in fact my second blog post in a row, i wonder if i'm now considered a legitimate blogger? i bet you have to do something ridiculous like have a full week of posts or something. whatever, i'll still add "blogger extraordinaire" to my resume...right behind mind reader. seriously, mind reader and librarian are pretty much the same thing.
anyways, as shocking as it may be, i learned something new again today! the world continues to teach me things, although i don't know that i always appreciate the things i'm taught. maybe it's one of those "once you're older you'll understand" kinds of things. if i'm still blogging when i'm "older" (which i don't plan on getting any time soon) i'll let you know if i've learned to appreciate any of my lessons.
so what did i learn today? contrary to popular belief (or at least MY belief, regardless of whether it's popular), boat shoes are not water friendly. not even a little bit. when i woke up to another stormy day i immediately went for my boat shoes thinking that if they're good for boats where WATER splashes, they'll be good for fighting the puddles that were sure to attack me as i walked to class. not so much. as i trekked across campus in the hours before even the birds were awake (thanks again, grad school), i confidently stepped through puddles knowing that my shoes-advertised-for-water-transportation would keep me safe. false. so false.
the water began seeping through the mesh sides (which probably should have been my first clue...mesh doesn't equal waterproof), quickly making my socks squishy. the closer i got to my classroom, the soggier my feet became. i might as well have had sponges attached to my ankles. a strange image, i know, but at least you didn't have to sit for an hour and a half with your feet soaking wet. next time i wake up and the weather looks like it's straight from the pages of twilight, i think i'll grab my rainboots, hunt down some puddles, and take a mental health day. puddle jumping is more fun than class any day.
